Helena Bioinformatics has appointed ELTA 90 as its exclusive distribution partner in Bulgaria. The agreement creates a local commercial and implementation channel for Folklore, Helena's genomic interpretation platform, and connects the product with an established supplier to Bulgarian laboratories.

The partnership addresses a practical need. Laboratories that generate next generation sequencing data also need software, training and local support to turn that data into a structured interpretation workflow. Folklore brings variant annotation, ACMG and AMP classification, phenotype matching, structural variant analysis and reporting into one reviewable environment. ELTA 90 brings access to laboratory teams, knowledge of molecular genetics workflows and experience supporting the introduction of new technologies.

The two companies will work together on market development, product demonstrations, customer onboarding and first line commercial coordination in Bulgaria. Helena will continue to provide the genomic methods, software engineering and specialist product support behind Folklore.

## A distributor that understands the laboratory

ELTA 90 was founded in Bulgaria in 1999\. Its business covers laboratory equipment, reagents, consumables, specialised diagnostic and research tests, and laboratory furniture. The company has built particular experience in next generation sequencing, molecular genetics, clinical laboratories and research infrastructure.

Its manufacturer relationships include Illumina, Sysmex, Nikon Instruments, Eppendorf and Thermo Fisher Scientific. These relationships matter because genomic software is adopted inside an existing laboratory operation. Sequencing instruments, sample preparation, data generation, interpretation and reporting are connected decisions for the customer.

An Illumina customer story published in 2025 provides a concrete example of ELTA 90's role. During the introduction of an Illumina NextSeq 2000 system at the Regina Maria Genetic Laboratory in Romania, ELTA 90 supported setup, implementation, training and issue resolution. That experience is directly relevant to laboratories adopting a new genomic workflow. It requires technical continuity after the initial commercial decision.

## Connecting sequencing with interpretation

ELTA 90 already works with laboratories that invest in sequencing and molecular diagnostics. Helena develops the computational layer that begins after genomic data has been generated.

Folklore accepts genomic variant files and organises evidence for professional review. It records the classification path, evidence provenance and case outputs so that laboratory specialists can examine how a result was produced. The platform supports panels, exomes and whole genomes. Final interpretation remains under qualified professional review.

This creates a clear division of responsibility. ELTA 90 can identify laboratories with a relevant need, guide local commercial discussions and support onboarding. Helena remains responsible for the platform, its genomic methods and the technical work required for each deployment.

For Bulgarian customers, the result is a local route to evaluation and adoption. A laboratory can discuss Folklore with a company that already understands its instruments, procurement process and operating constraints, while retaining direct access to Helena for scientific and technical questions.

## Bulgaria first, with a route to regional cooperation

The present agreement covers Bulgaria. It also places Helena next to a group with an operating presence beyond the country.

ELTA 90 has companies in Romania, Serbia, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece and Georgia. This regional structure gives the partners a practical basis for evaluating additional markets after the Bulgarian channel is established. Any expansion will be agreed for the relevant country and will depend on local customer needs, support capacity and commercial terms.

This distinction is important. The partnership creates access to regional relationships, but it does not treat market entry as automatic. The first job is to build a working distribution model in Bulgaria, with clear ownership of demonstrations, onboarding, support and customer feedback. A model that works locally can then be assessed with ELTA 90's partner companies elsewhere in Southeast Europe.

## A commercial step with operational depth

For Helena, the agreement adds a dedicated distribution channel in its home market. It brings Folklore closer to laboratories that are already investing in sequencing and molecular genetics, without requiring Helena to build a separate local sales and support operation for every customer.

For ELTA 90, Folklore adds a genomic interpretation platform to a portfolio centred on laboratory technology and diagnostics. The value is practical: customers can discuss data interpretation alongside the equipment and workflows that produce the data.

The first phase of the partnership will focus on joint customer discussions, platform demonstrations and onboarding in Bulgaria. Helena and ELTA 90 will use feedback from those engagements to define the laboratories, workflows and support model best suited to Folklore.

The agreement gives both companies a specific commercial task. ELTA 90 will bring Folklore into relevant laboratory conversations. Helena will make the platform and its methods ready for serious evaluation. Their progress will be visible in customer deployments, completed onboarding and the quality of support delivered after adoption.
